Mr Chippy is run by York locals: Andrew and Rowena, both having over 35 years catering experience in kitchens and management.  This has involved working in some of York’s most exclusive dining venues including York Minster, The National Railway Museum and the Treasurer’s House.

“We took the plunge to set up on our own with the takeaway over 20 years ago and haven’t looked back since” We pride ourselves in providing the best quality meals using only the finest and freshest ingredients.

It is not only just excellent fish and chips that are at the heart of Mr Chippy, equally important to us is our standard of customer care.  We guarantee a warm and friendly to each and every customer and are committed to delivering an enjoyable dining experience.

All of our ingredients are where possible, sourced locally, and Yorkshire based. We pride ourselves in being MSC credited with our fish being sustainably sourced from both Iceland and the North Atlantic.

We work with local farmers to find the best potatoes seasonally throughout the year.

We pride ourselves in being the only York fish and chip takeaway using sustainable palm oil, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options available.

Mr Chippy is renowned for being one of the first fish and chip takeaway’s in York to offer vegan banana blossom ‘fish & chips’ and pea-protein alternative to homemade vegan sausages.

Everyday our fish is checked and graded, potatoes are cleaned and chipped and our secret recipe batter is freshly made every morning to ensure their quality meets our exacting standards.

We are incredibly excited to have teamed up with City Cruises, York to offer our delicious fish and chips as part of their new Fish and Chip Cruises.

This partnership is a perfect match, as City Cruises York is known for providing a unique and memorable experience on the River Ouse, while Mr Chippy has a reputation for serving high-quality, traditional fish and chips. Together, we aim to provide a truly authentic and enjoyable British experience for our customers.

The fish and chip cruises will take place on board one of City Cruises’ York’s boats, where guests will be able to enjoy a leisurely cruise along the River Ouse while savouring our delicious fish and chips. We are very proud to be ambassadors and supporters of the local charity, the SNAPPY Trust. This cause is dear to our hearts and we are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of children with disabilities and their families through our support.

The Snappy Trust, formerly known as Snappy (Special Needs Activities and Play Provision for York), is a registered charity supporting children and young people with wide-ranging disabilities, from across the York area.

They were originally founded in 1985 by four parents who felt that their children had a tough time over the school holidays because of limited time with friends. They got together with one of the school’s head teachers and arranged to bring some of the children into school for a few days over the summer holidays to enjoy some play activities – and Snappy was born!

They have grown a lot since then and now support over 300 children, young people and their families each and every year. They have expanded their programmes to include a variety of activities and events and aim to empower children and young people by developing confidence, independence and social skills but mostly, they give the children and young people the opportunity to enjoy new experiences, have fun and make friends. They are very proud of their reputation across the York area and of the work their incredible team does to ensure that every child or young person that comes to The Snappy Trust, feels safe, valued and happy.

As ambassadors for SNAPPY, we actively promote the charity and its mission within our business. We engage in various initiatives to raise funds for the organization, such as attending and hosting charity events, participating in community fundraisers and encouraging our employees and customers to get involved and support the cause.

In addition to raising funds through various initiatives within our business such as our Easter egg and Christmas selection box appeals, collection boxes and photo’s with our very own mascot ‘Flipper’, we also work to secure resources for the charity. We network with other local enterprises and organisations to secure donations of equipment, experiences, and days out for the children and families supported by The SNAPPY Trust. These resources can have a significant impact on the quality of life and enjoyment for these children and their families, and we are proud to play a role in making them available.

We believe that by working together and utilising the resources of our business and the community, we can make a real difference in the lives of those supported by The SNAPPY Trust. We are committed to continuing our support for this worthy cause and making a positive impact on the community.
